Nothing to eat for dinner.

Last weekend I got too caught up in watching Mad Men to do things like shop or cook or generally get off the couch. This always ends up with me eating the most ridiculous things. For instance- I had a frozen dinner lined up with a salad on Sunday evening. I couldn't bear to actually eat it, so instead I took the few things in my fridge and whipped up some truffled Parmesan scrambled eggs.

2 eggs
dribble of white truffle oil
dash of heavy cream
2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan
salt and pepper

Heat oil in pan over medium heat. Beat remaining ingredients in a small bowl till fluffy. Add to hot oil. Stir quickly and continuously until eggs form tiny curds and are soft-set, don't overcook! Grab a glass of whiskey and continue watching Mad Men.

Truffled Parmesan Popcorn

You know what sounds good? Truffled parmesan popcorn. Here's how:

1.) Pop a bag of your favorite microwave popcorn.
2.) Get a big stainless steel bowl. Drizzle a teeny bit of truffle oil into it- careful, the oil is hardcore. Swirl bowl around or use a pastry brush to coat the outside of the bowl with the oil.
3.) Pour popped corn into bowl and toss lightly to coat with oil.
4.) Sprinkle with a couple tablespoons of parmesan and a bit of your favorite sea salt.

This Food & Wine recipe does a bit of a more complicated process with real truffles, but they are dead on with their suggested drink accompaniment- a cognac sidecar.

Truffle Season!

Truffle season just ended (early September) and although this year's season was shorter than most, there are are still plenty of truffles around. You can easily get summer truffles online, and they aren't terribly expensive. Or just get some truffle oil, (but be careful with it).
What should you do with it? Maybe some truffled eggs and toast. Or truffled risotto. Or shaved truffles over butternut squash gnocci with browned butter.
